- Impressions of the Golfpark Renneshof in Willich-Anrath
The first time I came into contact with golf was in 2007. At that time, I was working at Gravis in the Wellehaus in Bielefeld, where the GolfHouse was also represented at the time. Unfortunately, I didn't have the money or the time to follow Ben Hogan's footsteps for 18 years.
15 years later we write the year 2022 and by a coincidence a good friend told me that he was animated with a friend to the gulf and he soon his Platzreife strives. You couldn't miss a 7-iron like that! Together, we made the plan to obtain our golf license.
In February 2022, the time had come! We put ourselves in the hands of our golf pro at the racecourse and worked our way up to the course license. During this process, I quickly realized that golf was much more than any other sport I had played before in my life. In football, as well as in boxing, it always came down to strength and technique. Technique is needed in every sport, but in golf you need patience and humility if you want to even begin to move the ball over the green.
After my course license, I played the first 9 holes week after week on my home course, the Renneshof Golf Park. In a good 100 minutes, with the golf bag on my back, I was quickly familiar with every bunker and rough between holes 1 and 9, as well as the neighboring holes.
The moment when you are standing in the bunker again, even though the tee shot worked for once, is very frustrating. That is the moment when certainly one or the other gives up. In these situations, I often had to think of the words that the golf pro gave me on my journey during my golf course license: "Playing golf involved a lot of patience and humility with yourself."
Being patient with yourself is more important than ever! Whenever you want more from yourself, one thing always happens: the ball rolls a few feet or lands where you don't want it to. You get better with time and for that you need patience with yourself.
Having humility is important not only in life, but also in golf. Whenever you hit a very good shot, you must not have the expectation of yourself that the next shot will be just as good. If you do, it almost certainly won't.
I am very curious to see where my golf journey will take me.
