Short trip to Dublin

Spring 2022

Arrival

Started in gray Düsseldorf in rain and bad weather and was greeted by a rainbow in Dublin. So the journey can start!

The hotel

We were very lucky with the hotel! The new opening was not long ago and on offer at a great price. The "Dublin One" is to be recommended in any case! Located in the "North Circular Road" corner "Dorset St. Lower" it was quiet but still so central that you could walk back from the city center without hesitation.

Architecture

Dublin is one of the most individual cities I have had the opportunity to get to know. Not only the people are very open and warm. The architecture reflects the culture of each time. It feels like everyone can be who they are. Conservative to freaky, everyone has a place here and respects each other. The same is reflected in the constantly changing architecture. If you are in Dublin, I recommend to take your time and keep your eyes open. Otherwise you will miss beautiful details.

Tempel Bar

One of the oldest bars in Dublin! The Temple Bar! A truly magical place. People from all regions enjoy together the fresh beer or a good whiskey. The live music captures the good mood and potentiates it. Here it doesn't matter what you earn or where you come from, everyone is equally welcome and celebrates together. Here I met great people with whom I am still in contact today and they have become part of my circle of friends.

Lemon Jelly Cafe

Millennium Walkway, North City, Dublin 1, D01 Y027, Ireland

A real insider tip is this small and sweet cafe! Great service, nice people and above all damn good food! We were here twice for breakfast and do not regret it.

The book of Kells

The Book of Kells as well as the Trinity College Library are worth seeing. The story about the Book of Kells is told in a family-friendly way in the movie "The Secret of Kells" and was known to me beforehand. Learning all the historical details about it was a great friends to me. The audio guide is really well done and just like printed guides available in many languages.

It gets really sublime when you are led into the Trinity College library at the end. From the pictures, you can only imagine how impressive this room is. Books, collected over centuries, which are still in use today. The smell of leather and parchment in the room and the wooden floor that creaks slightly at one point or another. Unimaginable!

Guinness

As a lover of good beer, a visit to the Guinness Brewery is a must. I can only recommend the guided tour and a visit to the Sky Café to everyone. About the history of the company and the family you learn many nice things.

Wood Fire Cafe

3 Blessington St, Inns Quay, Dublin 7, D07 K443, Ireland

A beautiful little cafe with a charcoal oven, gifted cuisine and sweet staff in quaint locale. There is no great luxury or ostentatious decoration, but a lot of heart and especially good food. I will certainly go here again.

Friends are found in the most unimaginable places

Two days earlier at Temple Bar we met Will and Michael from L.A. (USA) and felt a direct connection. Some time later in the evening the Temple Bar closed and we moved on to make the night unsafe. Sometime in the evening, Michael told us that it was his birthday today and that he would be very happy if we would join him. We couldn't and didn't want to miss that. We are still in good contact today and I am very much looking forward to visiting these new found friends in LA.
